Microsoft is filling Teams with AI agents

New AI Agents Overview

Microsoft is adding a range of AI Copilot agents to its collaboration platforms, including Teams, SharePoint and Viva Engage. The agents are designed to assist users in meetings, channel discussions, community forums and content management. They are being rolled out for Microsoft 365 Copilot users, with many capabilities offered in public preview.

Facilitator Agents

Facilitator agents sit in on Teams meetings, where they create agendas, take notes and answer questions. They can also suggest time allotments for meeting topics, alert participants when a discussion is running over, and generate documents and tasks based on meeting outcomes. A mobile version can be activated with a single tap, allowing the agent to capture spontaneous interactions.

Channel and Community Agents

Channel agents answer questions using a channel’s historical conversations and meetings, and can produce status reports for projects. Community agents operate inside Viva Engage, Microsoft’s company‑wide social network, supporting community administrators and responding to user inquiries.

Knowledge Agents and Additional Tools

Knowledge agents work behind the scenes in SharePoint, where they organize, tag and summarize files. Alongside the agents, Microsoft introduced a redesigned Workflows tool that enables AI‑driven automation of tasks, and a feature that creates audio recaps from meeting notes.

All of these agents are currently available in public preview, giving Microsoft 365 Copilot users early access to AI‑enhanced collaboration across the company’s core productivity suite.
